Introduction
Caterpillar, the global leader in construction and mining equipment, wanted to modernize its jobsite operations — replacing noisy, diesel-fueled mobile offices with clean, solar-powered workspaces. Partnering with NowStar, a U.S. manufacturer specializing in innovative mobile structures, and Off-Grid Power Systems (OGPS), they created the NowStar SolarPro 28, a prototype designed to demonstrate a new standard of sustainability and efficiency for commercial construction sites.

The Challenge
Traditional jobsite trailers rely heavily on diesel generators, consuming fuel and producing noise and emissions. Caterpillar sought an autonomous power solution that could deliver:
1.Continuous, silent power for lighting, HVAC, and IT systems
2.Off-grid performance even in variable conditions
3.A compact, visually clean energy system

Why Pytes
Built with Tier-1 automotive-grade LFP cells and tested to SAE J2380 automotive vibration standards, the Pytes V5° delivers lightweight, expandable, and ultra-reliable power for any journey. Certified under UL 1973, UL 9540, and UL 9540A, it combines multi-layer safety protection, including a proven BMS, dual-pole breaker, heating film, and fire suppression system — ensuring performance in every condition. Fully compatible with Victron and other leading inverter brands, Pytes offers safe, smart, and simple energy installers can trust.

The System Configuration:
OGPS engineered a solar + storage system centered around Pytes V5° lithium batteries, chosen for their high energy density, integrated heating film, and proven reliability in mobile and low-temperature environments.System Highlights:
1.4 × Pytes V5° (20 kWh total) for stable off-grid power
2.Victron Quattro 48/3000 inverters + SmartSolar MPPT controllers
3.Merlin Solar & Hyperion panels delivering 5 kW solar generation
4.Victron Cerbo GX for intelligent system monitoring and auto-generator control
Even during harsh winter months, the V5°'s built-in heating film ensures optimal charging and discharging performance — eliminating downtime risks caused by low temperatures.

The Outcome
The NowStar SolarPro 28 exceeded expectations, delivering quiet, reliable, and fully autonomous power for Caterpillar's prototype workspace. The success of this model led Caterpillar to place additional follow-up orders, marking the beginning of a cleaner, more sustainable era in construction-site operations.
In the words of NowStar's President, Chris Brandon:
“OGPS has proven to be our most strategic partner — their expertise allowed us to deliver disruptive technologies to a rapidly emerging market.”

NOTE: Special thanks to NowStar and Off-Grid Power Systems (OGPS) for their collaboration in pioneering this innovative solution and for providing valuable expertise throughout the project.
