A public high school campus in Chula Vista, California, integrated a Pytes high-voltage battery energy storage system as part of a broader campus renovation and new building project.
Driven by California Title 24 Part 6 energy requirements, the project incorporated battery storage to support improved energy management and compliance with evolving commercial building standards.
The campus already had existing grid-tied solar carports. However, these PV systems operate independently and are not connected to the Pytes/Sol-Ark battery system. The BESS was designed as a standalone energy management solution focused on demand charge reduction and time-of-use energy shifting.

The installed system includes:
i)1 × Sol-Ark 60K high-voltage inverter
ii)2 × Pytes HV48100 SE battery cabinets
iii)Configuration: 1P7S + 1P7S
iiii)Total battery capacity: approximately 70 kWh
iiiii)Inverter output: 30 kW de-rated system design
Although the battery system is capable of higher output, the project design limits inverter output to approximately 30 kW based on the system configuration.
Each Pytes battery module provides approximately 5 kWh, allowing flexible cabinet configuration while maintaining cabinet capacity below 50 kWh. This helped simplify permitting documentation and support fire marshal/AHJ review.

Pytes was selected based on the project's required power and energy capacity, while also providing advantages in footprint optimization, documentation support, and permitting flexibility.
The ability to configure cabinets below 50 kWh was an important consideration for the design and approval process.

The BESS is designed to support:
1. Time-of-use energy shifting
2. Charging during lower-cost electricity periods
3. Discharging during higher-cost periods
4. Demand charge management
5. Improved campus energy flexibility
The installation and commissioning process has progressed smoothly overall. The project team has been completing final commissioning activities while working through system diagnostics and inverter coordination.
By combining Pytes HV48100 SE battery cabinets with Sol-Ark high-voltage inverter technology, the campus gains a flexible energy management solution designed to reduce exposure to peak demand charges and improve operational resilience.
Actual financial savings will depend on utility rates, campus load profile, and the final dispatch strategy.
This project demonstrates how high-voltage battery storage can support commercial and institutional facilities beyond traditional solar-coupled applications.
With flexible cabinet configurations, comprehensive documentation, and a compact design, Pytes HV48100 SE provides a practical solution for energy management projects requiring demand control, permitting support, and long-term flexibility.
