Located in the lush mountains of Costa Rica, Natuga Ecolodge began as a failing hotel but was transformed into a vibrant eco-community in 2021 by a group of young entrepreneurs. Their vision was to create a sustainable, self-sufficient community where modern living coexists with nature—colorful houses, organic gardens, open-air music spaces, and a strong commitment to a green lifestyle. However, to make their eco-friendly dream a reality, they needed a reliable, long-term energy solution. The existing energy system—comprised of outdated lead-acid batteries—was simply not up to the task.
The Challenge

The initial choice of lead-acid batteries had seemed like a cost-effective solution. But as the community expanded, they soon realized these batteries couldn't keep up with the growing energy demands:
(1) Frequent power outages disrupted daily activities, including running the organic farm and hosting community events.
(2) High maintenance requirements and unpredictable performance drove up operational costs.
(3) The system's inability to scale with the expanding community became a significant challenge.

The System Configuration:
Pytes V5 Batteries and a Scalable Energy System
In February 2023, Pytes Energy partnered with Off Grid Power, a local installer, to replace the old lead-acid system with 10 Pytes batteries. By April 2025, the solution had expanded to 28 Pytes V5 lithium-ion batteries equipped with automotive-grade LFP cells, designed to deliver high discharge rates, a long lifespan, and consistent performance in challenging tropical climates. The Pytes V5 batteries were integrated into the community's existing solar setup, working seamlessly with the inverters to deliver steady, reliable power. This system enabled Natuga to break free from power outages, reduce maintenance costs, and future-proof their energy needs as the community continued to grow.
